The original hand-painted icon of Our Lady of Quick Hearing and Quick Response is located in one of the ancient Byzantine churches located in the old city of Cyprus, close to the gates of Famagusta. Historians suggest that the church was built in the 5th century and was one of the earliest centers of Christianity in the region.
However, the historical value of this church is not only in its age, but also in the presence of one of the most unique icons. This icon is a depiction of the Blessed Virgin and Child and is characterized by the fact that it features two Virgin Marys, one on the right and one on the left of the Child. These two images have inscriptions: on the right “Quick-Hearing” and on the left “Quick-Response”.
The Virgin “Quick-Hearing” and “Quick-Response” is considered the patroness of those who come to her with requests and sorrows. According to legend, she listens to each person attentively and miraculously supports all those who turn to her in faith.
