How to order a hand-painted Orthodox icon

Ordering an icon from Mstyora Icons is simple, but every handmade icon still deserves a careful conversation. You can buy an icon that is already available in our catalog or request a custom hand-painted Orthodox icon for a saint, feast, family, wedding, baptism, church, or home prayer corner.

Our workshop works with traditional icon-painting materials: a prepared wooden board, levkas/gesso, egg tempera, natural pigments, and gold leaf when the design requires it. Before confirming a custom order, we clarify the image, size, materials, production time, price, and delivery country.

Option 1: order an icon from the catalog

If the icon is already listed on the website, open the product page and send a request through the cart or order form. After receiving your request, we check availability, confirm the final price, and answer any questions about the icon, packing, payment, and international shipping.

This option is best when you need a finished Orthodox icon or want to choose from icons already painted by the workshop.

Option 2: request a custom icon

If you need a personal commission, write to us at order@orthodox-icons.com. Please include the saint, feast, or iconographic type, the preferred size, whether you want gilding or filigree, and the country for delivery.

You can also order a custom icon from a reference image or photograph through our custom icon painting from a photo page. We will review the reference and explain what can be painted respectfully within Orthodox iconographic tradition.

What happens after you send a request?

  1. We review the request. We check the image, size, materials, and delivery details.
  2. We confirm the estimate. You receive information about the price, production time, and shipping option.
  3. The order is approved. For custom work, the workshop may request a prepayment before painting begins.
  4. The icon is painted or prepared for shipment. Finished icons are packed carefully to protect the board, paint layer, and gilding.
  5. You receive tracking or delivery details. We stay in contact until the order has been shipped.

Payment and international shipping

Payment details are confirmed individually after the order request, because the final cost depends on the icon size, materials, gilding, complexity, and delivery country. For international customers, we also clarify packing and shipping before the order is finalized.

Questions before buying

If you are not sure which icon to choose, send us a short message by email. Tell us whether the icon is for personal prayer, a family gift, a wedding, baptism, memorial gift, or church use. We will help you choose a suitable Orthodox image, size, and level of decoration.
