Jesus Orthodox Icon
The hand-painted icon of the Lord Almighty, or Pantocrator (from the Greek παντοκράτωρ – omnipotent, omnipresent, omnipresent), is one of the most famous and revered icons in the Orthodox Christian tradition. This icon depicts Jesus Christ as the Heavenly King and Judge of all creation.
The icon depicts the Lord Almighty Christ seated on a throne, often in the center of the composition. He is represented in full stature, usually holding an open scripture in one hand, symbolizing His authority and presence in the Word of God. The other hand of Jesus Christ is often raised in a blessing or embracing gesture.
The face of the Lord is usually portrayed as serious and powerful, yet full of mercy and compassion. He appears as an omniscient Judge who watches over each person and dispenses gifts and punishments according to each person’s faith and deeds.
The atmosphere surrounding the icon is often complemented by the depiction of archangels, saints or symbols of the Evangelists, which represent various aspects of Christ’s activity and the power of His kingdom.
The icon of the Savior Almighty has a deep spiritual meaning and invites the faithful to glorify Christ as the omnipotent and all-powerful King of all creation. It reminds of His power over all things, His divine justice and mercy, and of Him as the Judge of the Great Day.
This icon is often placed in church spaces, especially in the iconostasis, in the center or on a high place to attract the attention and reverence of the faithful. It also serves as an object of prayer and veneration, and the faithful address the icon of the Lord with requests for wisdom, justice and mercy, as well as protection and blessing.
