Description

Saint Panteleimon the Healer Hand-Painted Icon is a hand-painted Orthodox icon of Saint Panteleimon, the Great Martyr and Unmercenary Healer. For centuries, Orthodox Christians have turned to Saint Panteleimon in prayer for healing, consolation in illness, help during treatment, and strength of faith in difficult times.

Iconography of Saint Panteleimon

In this icon, Saint Panteleimon is shown as a young healer with a calm and compassionate face. He holds a medical spoon or instrument and a medicine casket, the traditional signs of his service to the sick. The golden halo, warm background, and recessed kovcheg give the image a solemn and prayerful character.

The red and green garments, fine highlights, and careful facial painting reflect the dignity of the saint as both healer and martyr. The image is intended for veneration and prayer, not as a printed decoration or souvenir.

Life of the Great Martyr and Healer

Saint Panteleimon was born in Nicomedia at the end of the third century. Before baptism, he was named Pantoleon. His mother was a Christian, and his father was a pagan of noble standing. As a young man, he studied medicine under the physician Euphrosynus and became known for his learning and skill.

After meeting the priest Hermolaus, the young physician came to faith in Christ. A miracle strengthened his conversion: through prayer in the name of Jesus Christ, he restored a child who had died from a serpent bite. After baptism he received the name Panteleimon, meaning all-merciful.

Saint Panteleimon treated the sick without payment and helped the poor, prisoners, and suffering. His mercy and miracles brought many people to Christ. During persecution, he endured torture and accepted martyrdom, remaining faithful to the Lord.

Prayerful Meaning

Orthodox Christians pray before the icon of Saint Panteleimon for healing of illness, strengthening of faith, patience in suffering, and help for doctors and medical workers. The icon is especially meaningful for homes, hospital chapels, parish prayer spaces, and families caring for someone who is ill.

It can also be given as a gift to a physician, nurse, medical student, or anyone named Panteleimon. The image reminds the faithful that true healing comes from God, and that mercy toward the suffering is a Christian duty.
